In 1977 I got my first Great Dane "Cara" an unregistered Merle from a newpaper ad.  She was a good companion and friend.  I  later joined the Hub City Kennel Club in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and purchased my first registered Dane  in 1984 from Greta Fuchs of  Richmore Great Danes. I purchased  a pretty brindle girl. I had a great 7 years with "Chancy" and we enjoyed dog sports such as agility, schutzhund and obedience.  I married Lyle in 1987 and we have never been with out a Dane in almost 35 years. I was a vet technician and now a medical laboratory technologist.

Thank you  to my mentor  Lisa Dias, Allyndane  Great Danes perm, reg.  for the foundation of Libertesse Great Danes.  I focused on breeding quality Great Danes with outstanding temperament and sound bodies.  The dogs in my breeding program are expected to have the same good health as those in pet homes. I rarely place any of my retired breeding dogs or retired show dogs, they are my friends and companions for life. I have no separate kennels, these dogs are all house pets first and foremost,  that live for car rides and runs in the woods. I take part in local agility and training classes so my dogs remain social and of sound mind and body.  Several are therapy dogs at our local long term care home and  acute floor .Danes are our only breed here at Libertesse. Breeding and raising sound healthy dogs has been my family’s pride and joy. We have also rescued some Great Danes in the past.

I breed on a limited basis once a year or every other year.  Fawns and Brindles mostly. My first black litter arrived in 2011.  Breeding stock are all CERF registered. This includes heart echo ,eyes, thyroid and hips.  Most of my dams/sires have are finished CKC champions, grand champions with at least one performance title rally or obedience.

I  feed a  selective raw diet and have been for over 25 years.  I have seen bloat and torsion decrease in my dogs, while longevity increased with my dogs some living well into the double digits, a rarity in the breed.  We have decreased the vaccination protocol of our dogs and puppies and see no autoimmune conditions and healthy living dogs.

Great Danes are not for everyone.  Dedication to health and diet are must.  Good healthy exercise and training to maintain healthy life are a must .  Potential homes are screened and checked for suitability.
Great Danes are a giant breed and they have large needs, the new owners must be willing to commit time , space and financial support to provide them with a good home for life.  They are wonderful companion for families and with consistent training they are great companions for children and adults. We sell with health guarantees and if for ANY REASON take our danes back into our home. NO EXCEPTIONS you must agree to our terms and conditions to purchase one from us.
